Why Can't People Turn Their Anxiety into Confidence During Interviews

 Introduction-:Overcoming the Fear of Interviews-:

Last week, I met a friend at the market who looked worried. When I asked why, she said she was anxious about her upcoming interview. That moment reminded me how common it is for people to feel nervous before interviews. In today’s competitive world, landing a job isn’t easy, and the interview process can seem like a mountain to climb.


How to overcome interview anxiety?

Interviews can be nerve-wracking, but with confidence, preparation, and the right mindset, you can turn anxiety into strength. Learn how focusing on your abilities, staying positive, and believing in yourself can help you shine in any interview.



The Power of Preparation -: 

Here I'd like to use the example of my friend Riya, who used to get nervous before every interview. But instead of letting her fear take over, she started working on her strengths and started making short notes about her strengths, weaknesses, .achievements and what she could bring to a company. With every practice session, her confidence grew. The day she faced her real interview, she wasn’t scared anymore—she was ready.


Focus on Strengths, Not Fear-:

The interview is an essential part of getting any job. Instead of overthinking what might happen, it’s better to focus on your own strengths and build your confidence. Every attempt teaches you something new. With time and effort, fear fades, and determination takes its place.


 Words that Inspire-:

How inspiring  words play a role in convincing someone of their worth. Imagine your friend is nervous about an interview. Instead of just wishing them luck, tell them, “You’ve worked hard for this, and you deserve that opportunity.” Sometimes, a few kind and encouraging words can ignite a spark of courage that changes everything.


Believe in Yourself and Keep Going-:

A person who follows their dreams, takes risks, and grabs opportunities never stays stuck in fear. The one who knows their abilities does not worry about who the interviewer is or what questions might come. Confidence comes naturally when you truly believe in your potential.



Staying Persistent-:

Here, I'd like to illustrate this point with an example from my neighbour. A girl named Maanya faced rejection five times in a row. Instead of giving up, she learned from each experience. By the sixth interview, she presented her case with clarity and confidence—and got the job. Her saying reminds us that persistence always pays off. The more persistent a person is, the more doors to achievement will open.

First Impressions Matter-;

The first meeting with the hiring manager sets the tone for the entire interview. Greet them with a smile, maintain professionalism, and let your confidence show. A positive first impression can open the door to success.

 A Confident Start

How your confidence can make a difference during interviews It has been observed that most interviewers look at your confidence level rather than your knowledge because it affects the way you work. I remember a story about the interview process that Sheena, a colleague of mine, told me. When Sheena entered the interview room, she greeted everyone politely and spoke with a calm expression, looking into their eyes.  This small gesture demonstrated confidence and respect. Later, the interviewee explained that their professional approach had a profound impact on them.


Show What Makes You the Right Fit-:

Interviewers are not just looking for qualifications—they want to know how you think and how you work. Present your ideas clearly and confidently. Before the interview, learn about the company’s vision and mission. It will help you give answers that connect with their goals.


 Doing Your Homework-:

Anyone applying for any job should understand the importance of homework. The word homework means that the interviewee should try to gather as much information as possible about the nature of the job, its projects, strategies, and requirements. Before interviewing at a technical firm, my friend's cousin, Karan, studied the company's recent projects.  When asked why he wanted to join, he explained how his skills matched his future plans. The interviewer was impressed—and he was hired the very next week. This prior information helped him immensely in his progress.


End with Confidence and Gratitude-:

When the interview ends, express how keen you are to work with them and how you can make a difference. Confidence isn’t about blowing your own trumpet —it’s about showing your belief in yourself and your abilities.


Leaving a Lasting Impression-: 

I would like to draw your attention to the way Maanya ended her interview, she said, “I’m really excited about the possibility of contributing to your team and learning from your company’s culture.” Her words not only left a positive impact but also showed her enthusiasm and sincerity. 




Final Thought:

Interviewers aren't obstacles—they're steps to growth. Every time you go into an interview, remind yourself: You are capable. You are ready. You are enough. Believe this, and success will follow. The entire interview process makes you aware of how opportunities turn into interviews and interviews into success. As we know, there's no shortcut or easy formula for getting things to work in your favour.  If you want to get a job, you should  be strategic, confident, hardworking, honest and most importantly persistence
